WAPA urged caution for drivers near St. Croix road project

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on October 25, 2021, that motorists had been speeding through a road work area tied to an electrical undergrounding project on St. Croix and ignoring directions from roadside personnel.

WAPA said crews began work in late September on the project running from the Melvin Evans Highway to the Wilfred “Bomba” Allick Port and Transshipment Center at Krause Lagoon. The authority said flaggers were on site and directional signs had been posted.

The authority said the Container Port work was one of two electrical undergrounding projects underway on St. Croix. It also said a similar project was taking shape on St. John in downtown Cruz Bay.

WAPA advised motorists to use caution in the work areas and follow directions from flaggers and traffic-control devices.
