Bryan sought 60-day extension of U.S. Virgin Islands state of emergency

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. sent proposed legislation to Senate President Donna Frett-Gregory on May 1, 2021, seeking a 60-day extension of the state of emergency he proclaimed in March 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The existing extension was set to expire on May 7, 2021. Bryan requested that it remain in effect until July 6, 2021.

Under Virgin Islands law, the 34th Legislature had five days to consider the request. If the Senate took no action on the proposed legislation, the extension would automatically take effect for an additional 30 days.
