Bryan gives Courageous Citizen Award to St. Croix teen who rescued friend
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. presented St. Croix teenager Saeed Phillips with the Courageous Citizen Award on April 2, 2019, for rescuing a friend from drowning after jumping off the Ann E. Abramson Pier in Frederiksted in March.
The award was presented during an assembly at the St. Croix Educational Complex attended by Phillips' family, teachers, mentors and the school's junior class.
During the event, AT&T representative Alexandria Veridailes, the company's regional vice president for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, gave Phillips an iPhone and AirPods to replace items he lost when he jumped into the water to help his friend.
Bryan also announced a paid summer internship for Phillips with the Department of Planning and Natural Resources. Government House said Bryan also planned to name a future swimming program for young Virgin Islanders in Phillips' honor.
