WAPA board approved contracts, lease and financing extensions at July 28 meeting

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s governing board voted on July 28, 2022, to approve a series of contracts, lease actions and financing extensions, according to WAPA.
The board approved a $6.69 million contract with Symbiosa for Geographic Information System services, including a post-storm field inventory survey of electrical transmission and distribution assets and upgrades to WAPA’s GIS system. WAPA said the project was fully funded through FEMA management-cost grants.
The board also approved waterline rehabilitation contracts of $3.2 million with Marco St. Croix Inc. for the Hannah’s Rest project and $7.1 million with VI Paving for the Campo Rico project.
In addition, the board approved no-cost time extensions for three underground electrical projects on St. Croix. The Midland Underground Project contract with VI Paving Inc. was extended by 122 days, from August 31, 2022, to December 31, 2022. The Golden Grove Underground Project contract with Vivot Construction was extended by 115 days, from September 7, 2022, to December 31, 2022. The Container Port Underground Project contract with J. Benton Construction LLC was extended by 111 days, from September 11, 2022, to December 31, 2022.
The board also approved extending First Bank and Banco Popular lines of credit and overdraft facilities until at least October 31, 2022, and up to July 31, 2023, at a cost not to exceed $400,000, including related bank fees and legal expenses.
Separately, the board authorized a 10-year lease with Sunny Isle Developers LLC for about 7,200 square feet of office space in Sunny Isles on St. Croix for $2.37 million, with an option to negotiate an additional 10-year extension at the end of the initial term.
The board also authorized a short-term extension of WAPA’s existing lease with Aggreko LLC on St. Croix through August 31, 2022, at a cost not to exceed $1.05 million.
