St. Croix water interruption was scheduled for Golden Rock, Richmond and nearby areas on Oct. 20-21, 2018

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said a water service interruption was scheduled on St. Croix from midnight on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018, to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, for customers in Golden Rock, La Grande Princesse, Little Princesse, Richmond and Contentment.

WAPA said the outage was planned so the Richmond Pump Station could be taken offline while five 12-inch valves were replaced in the Golden Rock area. Three of the valves were to be changed at the Golden Rock stop light, one along Northside Road near the Casino Commission, and one along Route 753 near the J. Benton office building.

WAPA said the work was part of a system upgrade tied to activation of a new 24-inch water main from Richmond to Catherine's Rest. Customers in Questa Verde, Catherine's Rest, Work and Rest, Humbug and Recovery Hill also could experience low to no water pressure during the outage.

The authority said traffic would be rerouted in the work area and said additional service interruptions would be needed over the following three weeks to fully activate the new 24-inch water line.
