Mapp says 2018 St. Thomas Carnival parades reflected community spirit after hurricanes

Gov. Kenneth Mapp said on April 30, 2018, that the 2018 St. Thomas Carnival parade weekend showed strong community participation as residents and visitors filled downtown Charlotte Amalie for the Children’s Parade on April 27 and the Adult’s Parade on April 28.

In a statement, Mapp said the celebrations took place as the territory continued recovering from the September 2017 hurricanes. He thanked revelers, the Carnival Committee, troupe organizers, the public and the Virgin Islands Police Department, and said the events were held without any serious incident.

According to Government House, Joseph Sibilly Elementary School served as grand marshal for the Children’s Parade, and the Virgin Islands Department of Education entered a parade presentation titled "Full Steam Ahead Aboard the Opportunity Express."

Government House said Elskoe and Associates Carnival Troupe served as grand marshal for the Adult’s Parade. Mapp and Lt. Gov. Osbert Potter greeted residents and visitors along the parade route, according to the statement.
