Virgin Islands changes vehicle inspection schedule effective May 1, 2019
The Virgin Islands Bureau of Motor Vehicles said on April 9, 2019, that it would change the territory’s vehicle inspection schedule effective May 1, 2019.
Under the new procedure, vehicles up to 6 years old would no longer be subject to annual re-inspection, but would still have to be registered each year.
Vehicles 7 to 11 years old would have to be inspected every two years, at ages 7, 9 and 11, and registered annually, the bureau said.
Vehicles 12 years old and older would continue to be inspected and registered every year.
The bureau also said vehicle owners remained responsible for ensuring their vehicles were roadworthy at all times, and that the Virgin Islands Police Department would issue fines for violations of driving and registration laws and regulations under the Virgin Islands Code.
