The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority appointed Ashley Bryan, director of transmission and distribution, as interim chief operating officer for electric operations, according to a Jan. 30, 2023 announcement.
WAPA said Bryan, a Virgin Islands native, earned a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of South Florida in 2011 and had worked in the energy industry for 12 years.
Before joining WAPA, Bryan worked at Wind Turbine and Energy Cables in Tampa, Florida, and later at URS Corporation, where WAPA said she managed an as-built ETAP impedance model for the U.S. Department of Defense.
After returning to the U.S. Virgin Islands, Bryan joined WAPA as an electrical engineer and later became director of transmission and distribution. WAPA said she developed standard operating procedures for the division, prepared a five-year capital plan for transmission and distribution operations and maintenance, and helped secure grant funding for electric vehicles, hybrid bucket trucks, and employee training programs.
WAPA also said Bryan was a certified utility safety professional and served on committees of the American Public Power Association.
