Bryan sent congratulatory letters to Biden and Harris
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. sent formal letters on November 20, 2020, congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory in the presidential election, Government House said.
Government House said Bryan had publicly congratulated Biden and Harris on November 7, 2020, after enough votes had been tabulated for them to be declared the winners.
In the letters, Bryan said he looked forward to working with the incoming administration on economic growth, jobs, infrastructure and what he described as discriminatory treatment of Americans living in U.S. insular areas.
Bryan also congratulated Harris on becoming the first Black woman and Asian American elected vice president and the highest-ranking woman elected in U.S. history, according to Government House.
The letters also invited Biden, first lady Jill Biden, Harris and Douglas Emhoff to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands, Government House said.
Government House said the letters would be kept in the National Archives as part of the official historical record.
