WAPA said potable water service was being restored to western St. Croix

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 19, 2019, that potable water service was returning for increasing numbers of customers from mid-island to the west end of St. Croix, including Frederiksted.

WAPA said two additional pumps had been brought online since March 18, 2019, as it worked to increase capacity at the Kingshill storage tank, which supplies water to the western end of the island.

The authority said water division leadership inspected the distribution system on March 19, 2019, and found pressure-regulating devices at several locations that needed adjustment or reactivation. After those changes were made, WAPA said service performance improved in west-end areas, including Frederiksted.

Crews were also at the Contentment pump station on March 19, 2019, preparing to start three newly installed pumps there. WAPA said those additions would bring the number of newly installed pumps supporting storage at Kingshill to five.

The authority said customers still experiencing a complete interruption in water service could be dealing with isolated problems.
