Bryan proclaimed May 16-22 as National Public Works Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. proclaimed May 16 through May 22, 2021, as National Public Works Week in the U.S. Virgin Islands, according to a Government House announcement published May 17, 2021.
The announcement said the Virgin Islands Department of Public Works was involved in more than two dozen road and infrastructure projects across the territory.
On St. Thomas, the department had completed paving at Bunker Hill in downtown Charlotte Amalie, redevelopment work on Main Street and repairs to Mafolie Road after a section of the roadbed collapsed. The department also had installed palm trees and other landscaping along the Waterfront as it neared completion of the second half of Phase 1 of a road-widening project.
The announcement said an extensive repaving project in Frederiksted Town was scheduled to begin in June 2021. It also said Bryan had sent legislation to the Legislature earlier in May 2021 seeking $1.5 million to complete improvements to the Frederiksted waterfront from Dorsch Beach along Strand Street to Buddhoe Park.
Other projects cited in the announcement included road paving in downtown areas, restoration and redevelopment of Gallows Bay Marina, restoration of the King’s Alley Pier, and lighting and a tender dock at the Ann Abramson Pier.
