Bryan says partnership is installing 200 recreational moorings across U.S. Virgin Islands

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on Sept. 14, 2023, that a public-private partnership between the Department of Planning and Natural Resources and the V.I. Professional Charter Association had launched a project to install 200 recreational moorings across the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to Bryan’s statement, the project was supported by a $562,000 grant from the U.S. Economic Development Authority, while DPNR provided in-kind support and regulatory guidance.

Bryan said the project received permits from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and V.I. Coastal Zone Management and that more than half of the moorings had already been installed.

He said the moorings were intended to accommodate vessels including monohulls, multihulls and mega yachts, while reducing potential damage to coral reefs by providing an alternative to anchoring.
