Bryan receives update on Lovango Cay resort project

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with developer Mark Snider for an update on the resort under construction on Lovango Cay, Government House said on Dec. 2, 2019.

Lovango Cay is in Pillsbury Sound between Red Hook on St. Thomas and Cruz Bay on St. John. According to the statement, the Lovango Resort and Beach Club was expected to be completed around December 2021.

The project was described as a self-sustaining resort and club with solar and wind power and a reverse-osmosis plant for water. The development was set to include overnight cottages, a limited number of lots for private homes, Zozo’s H2O Restaurant, which was scheduled to open in February 2020, and the Lovango Beach Club, which was scheduled to open in December 2020.

Snider told Bryan that the project had received Economic Development Commission benefits requiring 60% of its workforce to be Virgin Islands residents. He also said local employees would be offered work at sister properties on Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket during the Virgin Islands off-season.

Government House said Matt Snider, the project manager, had been teaching an upperclassmen course in the University of the Virgin Islands hospitality program since September 2019. The statement said most of the class visited Lovango in October 2019, and two students were interning as managers-in-training at The Nantucket Hotel until mid-December 2019.

The project also planned daily ferry service between Cruz Bay and the resort, along with moorings and drop-off facilities for private and charter boats.
