Mapp joined FEMA hurricane briefing with Trump administration officials
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp participated in a video teleconference with governors from across the country on June 6, 2018, as Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator William "Brock" Long and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen met with President Donald Trump and Cabinet officials at FEMA headquarters for the 2018 Annual Hurricane Briefing.
According to Government House, Long and Nielsen updated the president on preparations for the 2018 hurricane season and on recovery efforts in the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Texas and Florida. FEMA also reviewed lessons from the 2017 hurricane season and provided an overview of evacuation zones, clearance times, decision timelines and forecast uncertainty.
Mapp was joined for the teleconference by VITEMA Director Mona Barnes and FEMA Region II Federal Coordinating Officer William "Bill" Vogel.
Government House said Mapp urged Virgin Islands residents to prepare for the hurricane season, which began on June 1, 2018, by assembling disaster supplies, creating evacuation and communication plans, following up with FEMA and the Small Business Administration on grants and loans for homes and businesses, registering for VITEMA alerts, and monitoring weather updates.
