Mapp said $230 million Cyril E. King Airport modernization plan would be unveiled in June
Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp told the League of Women Voters of the Virgin Islands on April 21, 2018, that his administration would unveil a $230 million modernization plan for Cyril E. King Airport in June.
During the league's annual meeting at E’s Garden Teahouse, Mapp said the public would soon be invited to community charrettes with the Virgin Islands Port Authority to discuss the planned airport improvements.
Mapp's remarks and question-and-answer session also covered hurricane recovery, long-term resiliency efforts, tourism and education, according to Government House.
League Vice President Gwen-Marie Moolenaar said she had concerns about government plans to accommodate larger cruise ships, citing the potential for increased congestion.
League chapter President Felecita Richards introduced Mapp and Federal Emergency Management Agency Coordinating Officer Bill Vogel, who provided a brief recovery update. Vogel told attendees that FEMA would remain in the territory as long as necessary and said there was still much work to do.
