The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on June 4, 2024, that its contractor, Haugland VI, was continuing manhole work on Emancipation Drive, also known as Hannah’s Rest Road, on St. Croix.

WAPA said underground cable pulling and installation for the Feeder 8B underground project was set to begin on June 6, 2024, and continue through the end of August, with work scheduled Monday through Friday.

The work was planned along Emancipation Drive from the intersection with Melvin H. Evans Highway to the intersection with Fisher Street in Frederiksted. WAPA said traffic could be affected at times by single-lane closures, with flaggers, traffic cones and signs directing vehicles.

According to the authority, the project was intended to replace part of the overhead distribution system with underground cables.
