Government House says Bryan toured schools as students returned to in-person classes
Government House said on September 7, 2021, that Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. toured pre-K through second-grade classes on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John as students returned to in-person learning.
At the weekly Government House press briefing, Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. said Bryan visited Ricardo Richards Elementary School on St. Croix, Julius E. Sprauve K-8 School on St. John and Joseph Gomez Elementary School on St. Thomas.
Government House also announced winners from the August 27 Vax-to-Win lottery drawings. Dianne Carroll of St. Croix and Wubnesh Nelson of the St. Thomas-St. John district won $100,000 prizes.
A supplemental drawing funded by a $50,000 surplus from the August 6 drawing awarded $10,000 each to Marcus Davis and Aida Rios of St. Croix, Tafron Testamark and Rosa Da Cruz of St. Thomas, and Donna Smith of St. John.
Government House said 3,753 income tax refund checks totaling $10.1 million were being mailed that week for 2019 tax returns. It also said about 8,500 child tax credit checks had been mailed the previous week, but some payments could be delayed because of U.S. Postal Service issues.
At the briefing, Government House reported a seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate of 3.05%, 193 active cases and 62 fatalities. The active cases were listed as 120 on St. Croix, 68 on St. Thomas and five on St. John.
