Bryan ordered noon closure of schools and government offices ahead of Tropical Storm Karen

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. ordered the Government of the Virgin Islands to close at 12 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, as Tropical Storm Karen approached the territory.

The order dismissed all non-essential government employees at noon. Essential personnel, as determined by immediate supervisors, were required to report to work as normal.

Schools and government offices also were set to close at 12 p.m. on Sept. 23, 2019, to allow employees to prepare for the storm and to commute before any anticipated port closures later that day.

The Virgin Islands Territorial Emergency Management Agency said it would issue periodic storm updates.
