Bryan said Public Works Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. would leave post at end of December
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said in a statement published December 20, 2020, that Public Works Commissioner Nelson Petty Jr. would leave public service at the end of December to work in the private sector.
The statement said Petty would become a division manager for a private company’s operations in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Petty had led the Department of Public Works since 2017. The statement said he joined the department in 1996 and previously oversaw its Federal Highway Division.
The administration said Assistant Public Works Commissioner Dennis Brow would become acting commissioner effective January 1, 2021.
In the statement, Petty cited several projects completed or underway during his tenure, including the expansion of Veterans Drive on the St. Thomas waterfront, work on Melvin Evans Highway on St. Croix, the Main Street Enhancement Project in Charlotte Amalie, and the VITRAN Transit Maintenance and Operations Bus Facility on St. Croix.
