The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said 184 employees completed worker fall protection and prevention training held from Dec. 12 through Dec. 15, 2022, on St. Croix and St. Thomas.

WAPA said the training was provided by the American Public Power Association and funded through a federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration grant. The authority said employees from line, plant operations and maintenance, substation, and engineering departments took part.

According to the authority, Sage Services Group LLC conducted the training, led by Chief Executive Officer Sonya Hopson. WAPA said the sessions covered fall hazards, fall-protection measures in the utility industry, causes of workplace injury and death in the industry, and the importance of pre-planning and pre-job briefings.
