The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it took part in an outreach event at the University of the Virgin Islands on July 24, 2023, where volunteers gave high school summer students an overview of the utility’s power generation, transmission, distribution and water systems.
According to WAPA, Mechanical Engineer I Shiquoi Isaac discussed his educational path and work on the Randolph Harley Power Plant project known as the Wartsila Project. Manager of System Planning and Design Ambi Blyden spoke about the relationship between transmission, distribution and power plant operations, including differences between underground utility lines and composite poles. Mechanical Engineer La’ron Henry of WAPA’s Water Department reviewed the authority’s water distribution network, potable water capture and planned projects.
WAPA said the event also included a question-and-answer session and information on career paths at the authority.
