The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on February 26, 2021, that about 12,140 customers received bills covering 36 days in a billing cycle that ended on February 12, 2021.

WAPA said a meter readers' work-schedule error delayed some meter readings by as much as six days, extending the billing period for affected customers beyond 30 days.

The authority said it reviewed the issue internally after it was identified. WAPA said affected customers would see shorter service periods in the next billing cycle, in some cases as low as 24 days, and that the following month's bills should return to the normal service period.
