OMB moved St. Croix Social Security stipend distribution to Agriculture Fairgrounds
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. directed the Office of Management and Budget to resume distribution of Social Security stipend checks on St. Croix at the Rudolph Schulterbrandt Agricultural Grounds in Estate Lower Love beginning Nov. 14, 2022.
The government said distribution on St. Croix was suspended on Nov. 9, 2022, after large crowds gathered at the parking lot of the Viya building, which it said did not have enough space for the number of clients.
The $500 payments were to be issued to about 22,000 Social Security recipients who are seniors or disabled adults.
On St. Croix, checks were scheduled to be distributed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by last-name groups through drive-through lanes at the fairgrounds, with walk-ups also accommodated. The schedule was A-F on Nov. 14, G-L on Nov. 15, M-R on Nov. 16, S-Z on Nov. 17, and makeup distribution on Nov. 18 for residents who could not attend on their assigned day.
The government said distribution on St. Thomas would continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 14-18 at the Schneider Regional Medical Center front parking lot. On St. John, checks remained available at the St. John Administrator's Office.
OMB also said recipients in both districts could request to receive their stipend by mail by emailing the agency.
