Bryan announces first two $100,000 Vax-to-Win lottery winners
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said during the Government House briefing on July 19, 2021, that the first two winners in the territory's $100,000 Vax-to-Win lottery were Ronald Mosholder of St. John and Grethel Smith of St. Croix.
The administration said each received $100,000 for being fully vaccinated. It said nine more $100,000 drawings were scheduled for each district and that the lottery was open only to Virgin Islands residents.
Government House said residents were automatically entered once vaccinated. It said prizes won by people younger than 18 would be held in escrow until their 18th birthday.
During the same briefing, Territorial Epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis said 84 sequenced samples had shown variants of the coronavirus, including 65 Alpha cases, six Iota or Beta cases, and one Epsilon case. She said 12 additional samples had not been confirmed as previously identified variants in the territory and might be the Delta variant, with full sequencing results expected that week.
Bryan also said retroactive pay for government retirees age 65 and older would begin being mailed on July 22, 2021. He said the administration expected Child Tax Credit funding for the U.S. Virgin Islands from the U.S. Department of the Treasury by the end of August and intended to issue payments in five monthly installments starting in August.
Government House said 38,220 people in the territory were fully vaccinated, or 48.1% of the eligible population.
