The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said it participated in a youth outreach event on July 13, 2023, with the Office of Gun Prevention and Community Action Now as part of Gun Prevention Week.

WAPA said the event connected authority volunteers with 35 students ages 12 to 17 and focused on career opportunities at the utility.

According to the authority, Director of Accounting Lorraine Kelly discussed accounting careers, Electrical Engineer Jamal Hodge spoke about his path into engineering and answered questions about how WAPA’s power grid functions, and Mechanical Engineer La’ron Henry discussed opportunities available to students, including WAPA’s scholarship program for high school students.
