WAPA issued precautionary boil-water notice for Frederiksted Town residents

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority issued a precautionary boil-water notice on September 4, 2019, for potable water customers in Frederiksted Town on St. Croix after a drop in water pressure.

WAPA advised residents to boil water used for drinking, cooking, infant formula, juices, ice, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, and washing dishes. The authority said bringing water to a rolling boil for one full minute was sufficient, then cooling it and storing it in clean, covered containers.

The authority said the notice did not mean the water was contaminated, but that reduced pressure could allow contaminants to enter underground pipes. WAPA said the advisory would remain in effect until required bacteriological testing was completed.
