WAPA board approved waste-removal contract tied to grid-hardening work and extended credit maturities
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority’s governing board approved a $55 million contract on December 24, 2018, for removal of waste generated by ongoing electric-grid hardening work, including the replacement of wooden poles with composite poles.
WAPA said Haugland Energy was one of two companies that responded to a request for proposals and was selected for the work. The contract carried a completion date of December 31, 2020. According to the authority, the project qualified for 90% FEMA reimbursement and 10% HUD reimbursement.
The board also approved a provisional extension of the maturity dates on WAPA’s lines of credit and overdraft credit facilities with Banco Popular and First Bank to October 31, 2019. WAPA said the extension was intended to give the banks time to provide formal commitment letters and to allow the authority to comply with financial reporting requirements.
Board members listed as attending the meeting were Chairwoman Elizabeth Armstrong, Vice-Chairman Hubert Turnbull, Secretary Juanita Young, Gerald T. Groner, Noel Loftus, Cheryl Boynes Jackson, Commissioners Devin Carrington and Nelson Petty Jr., and Director Marvin Pickering.
