Virgin Islands Hemp Commission approved first hemp production license on Dec. 23

The Virgin Islands Hemp Commission voted unanimously on Dec. 23, 2020, to issue the territory’s first license to produce hemp, according to Government House.

The commission reviewed applications from Crucian Hemp Farms, LLLP, for licensing and registration as a commercial hemp grower, hemp seed distributor and hemp transporter. Government House said the commission found the company’s paperwork and documentation showed compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture rules and the territory’s hemp plan.

According to the release, the six commission members who participated in the vote were University of the Virgin Islands President David Hall, Police Commissioner Trevor Velinor, Sen. Allison DeGazon, Agriculture Commissioner Positive T.A. Nelson, Carol Jacobs of the Virgin Islands Department of Justice, and Laurent Alfred of the Hemp Retailers Association.

Government House said Crucian Hemp Farms planned to cultivate and harvest 125 acres of CBD-rich hemp, with as many as three harvests a year.
