Bryan administration hosted virtual NASA event for Virgin Islands students

The Bryan administration said on December 21, 2021, that it had hosted a virtual event between NASA representatives and U.S. Virgin Islands students from public, private and parochial schools.

According to Government House, hundreds of students took part in the session, which included Education Commissioner Raquel Berry-Benjamin, NASA representatives Stefanie Sass and Kaila Davis, and Steve Bullock, identified as NASA’s U.S. Virgin Islands Solar System Ambassador.

Government House said Greg Robinson, deputy associate administrator for programs in NASA’s Science Mission Directorate and James Webb Program director, gave students an overview of the James Webb Space Telescope, which the release said was scheduled to launch from French Guiana on December 24, 2021.

The release also said NASA interns Stephanie Bullock of the Virgin Islands, Robyn G. Reichle and Jamarius J. Reid discussed their work at the agency and described career opportunities, including roles outside science, technology, engineering and math.

Government House said the virtual session was the first in a two-part series and that NASA planned to send astronauts to the Virgin Islands for an in-person event in 2022.
