Bryan signs bill authorizing land exchange for St. John school

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. signed legislation on Sept. 29, 2023, authorizing a land exchange agreement between the National Park Service and the Virgin Islands government for construction of a new pre-K-12 school on St. John.

Government House said the agreement cleared the way for the school after what it described as a 50-year effort by multiple governors and administrations. The administration said the facility also is intended to serve as a storm shelter and community center.

Lt. Gov. Tregenza A. Roach, Senate President Novelle E. Francis, At-Large Sen. Angel Bolques, Education Commissioner Dionne Wells-Hedrington and St. John Administrator Shikima Jones-Sprauve attended the bill signing, according to Government House.
