Virgin Islands completes rules and regulations for cannabis program
Government House said on May 21 that rules and regulations governing the Virgin Islands Cannabis Program had been completed and signed by Gov. Albert Bryan Jr.
At a weekly press briefing on St. Croix, Communications Director Richard Motta Jr. said the regulations would govern the rollout of cannabis licenses and third-party vendor certifications and outline the duties of the Office of Cannabis Regulations director and the Cannabis Advisory Board.
According to Government House, the program combines medical cannabis and adult-use provisions and includes protections and benefits for medical cannabis users. Motta said people interested in participating in the program as caregivers, prescribing physicians, licensees, third-party vendors or consultants should contact the Office of Cannabis Regulations.
The announcement came during a briefing that also included a weather advisory. Ernesto Morales of the National Weather Service in Puerto Rico said an extreme heat warning was in effect, particularly for St. Croix, with heat indices above 108 degrees. He said rain was expected to begin on May 22 and continue through the night of May 23, with 2 to 4 inches forecast.
VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen said sandbags would not be distributed because significant accumulation was not expected.
