Lieutenant governor’s office launched territorywide street-addressing phase and scheduled St. John town hall
The Office of the Lieutenant Governor said on Nov. 14, 2022, that it had begun the territorywide phase of its Street Addressing Initiative and scheduled a public town hall on St. John.
Geographic Information System Director Chris George said during the Government House briefing that the project was intended to create a standardized addressing system and related street signage across the U.S. Virgin Islands. The office said the initiative was being funded with $5.09 million through the Virgin Islands Housing Finance Authority Community Development Block Grant program.
George said the first part of the phase would be completion of street naming on St. John. The office scheduled a town hall for 6 p.m. on Nov. 17, 2022, at the Cleone H. Creque Legislative Hall in Cruz Bay to gather residents’ input and answer questions.
He said residents in other parts of the territory should begin organizing through neighborhoods, homeowners associations and community groups to start the naming process, and that information and tools were available through the initiative’s website.
During the same Nov. 14 briefing, Territorial Epidemiologist Dr. Esther Ellis said the Department of Health had updated COVID-19 vaccination schedules and reported 43 active COVID-19 cases as of Nov. 7, 2022, including 31 on St. Croix and 12 on St. Thomas. She said one COVID-19 patient was hospitalized at Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix and one at Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.
Ellis also said RSV had been detected in the territory and that hospitals had reported several cases during the fall season, including six hospitalizations at Schneider Regional Medical Center and one at Juan F. Luis Medical Center. She said the territory had no confirmed monkeypox cases.
