More than 300 diplomas awarded to graduating seniors on St. Thomas

Graduation ceremonies for Charlotte Amalie High School and Ivanna Eudora Kean High School were held on St. Thomas on June 23 and June 24, 2018, with 329 seniors receiving diplomas.

At Ivanna Eudora Kean High School, 137 students graduated during a commencement ceremony at the Digna Wheatley Gymnasium on June 23. Valedictorian Jalen J.T. Francis described the Class of 2018 as "resilient and revolutionary." Hezekiah J. George was salutatorian, and Teshanne Phillip delivered the commencement address.

Members of Kean High School classes from 1973, 1978, 1988, 1993, 1998, 2003, 2008 and 2013 also attended. The Class of 1973 marked 45 years since it became the school’s first graduating class.

Charlotte Amalie High School held its 88th annual commencement program on June 24, awarding diplomas to 192 students. Valedictorian Sumaiyah Richardson spoke about the class’s experience during the school year following the 2017 hurricanes. Carissa Moses was salutatorian, and Maria Melendez-Tirado, a 1993 graduate, delivered the keynote address.

Education Commissioner Sharon Ann McCollum also recognized members of Charlotte Amalie High School’s Class of 1968 during its golden anniversary observance.

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp and Lt. Gov. Osbert E. Potter attended the ceremonies and addressed graduates.
