More than 12,000 Virgin Islands borrowers qualified for Biden student loan relief plan, Bryan said

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on Sept. 21, 2022, that more than 12,000 U.S. Virgin Islands borrowers qualified for President Joe Biden’s student loan relief plan.

According to information cited from the Biden administration, 7,800 Virgin Islands student loan borrowers were eligible for debt relief and 4,700 Pell Grant borrowers in the territory were eligible for additional Pell-related debt relief.

The White House had announced in August 2022 that Pell Grant recipients could receive up to $20,000 in debt relief and other eligible borrowers could receive up to $10,000.

Government House said the U.S. Department of Education was expected to release additional details in the following weeks on how borrowers could apply for the relief plan.
