Bryan called for territorial day of prayer as U.S. Virgin Islands COVID-19 cases held at 17

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on March 25, 2020, that the U.S. Virgin Islands would observe a Territorial Day of Prayer on March 30 as the government continued its response to the COVID-19 outbreak.

At a Government House press conference, Bryan said more details about the day of prayer would be announced later. He also said residents should continue staying home and follow guidance from the Virgin Islands Department of Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Bryan said the territory had no new confirmed coronavirus cases as of the afternoon of March 25, leaving the total at 17.

The government said 103 people had been investigated as suspected cases. Of those, 56 had tested negative and 30 tests were pending, including 10 on St. Croix, 17 on St. Thomas and three on St. John.

Officials also reported reduced airline schedules and cancellations for St. Thomas by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Seaborne and Cape Air. No airline cancellations were reported for St. Croix.

The three car ferry companies operating between St. John and St. Thomas were running modified schedules. Passenger ferries between St. John and St. Thomas were operating with reduced capacity, while the QE IV ferry between St. Croix and St. Thomas had halted service until further notice.

Ferry operations at the Edward Blyden Terminal ended at noon on March 25 and the terminal closed until further notice, though Customs services remained available daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cargo operations continued as normal.

Bryan also said the Virgin Islands had received approval from the U.S. Small Business Administration for a disaster declaration request. The government said the SBA also notified the territory that payments on SBA loans from previous disasters would be deferred through December 31, 2020.
