Bryan opens St. Thomas Carnival Village, grants leave for some government employees
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. opened the St. Thomas Carnival Village, themed "Coggie’s Musical Ville," on Friday, April 26, 2019, marking the start of Carnival 2019 on St. Thomas, according to Government House.
The village honored musician Michael Coggins. Government House said Coggins had performed for years in the Virgin Islands, including with Milo and the Kings.
In the announcement, Bryan also said non-essential government employees in the St. Thomas-St. John District would receive administrative leave from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, for Food, Arts and Crafts Fair Day, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2019, for J’ouvert.
Government House said non-essential government employees territorywide also were granted administrative leave from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2019, for Children’s Parade Day.
Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach also spoke at the opening, according to the statement.
