WAPA said 12 employees began cybersecurity certification training
The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on January 18, 2023, that 12 employees in its IT, line and plant departments had begun cybersecurity training in December 2022.
WAPA said the courses were being provided through the SANS Institute and funded by a U.S. Department of the Interior grant. The training was scheduled to be completed virtually.
According to the authority, the first course in the series was SEC275: Foundations - Computer, Technology and Security. WAPA said employees who completed the course would receive the GIAC Foundational Cybersecurity Technologies, or GFACT, certification.
The authority said the training was part of a broader effort to strengthen its cybersecurity preparedness as more mission-critical data moved to the cloud.
