Bryan marks St. Croix law-enforcement graduation; Human Services loads summer P-EBT funds
Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. said on October 11, 2022, that 18 new law-enforcement officers graduated on St. Croix during a ceremony held that morning at the D.C. Canegata Recreational Center.
Speaking during the administrationās weekly briefing, Bryan congratulated the graduates and their families and said the officers included Virgin Islands Police Department personnel and other law-enforcement graduates on St. Croix.
At the same briefing, Human Services Commissioner Kimberley Causey-Gomez said the department had loaded eligible recipientsā P-EBT cards on October 11 with about $5.6 million in federal summer 2022 benefits. She said the one-time payment was $455 per eligible K-12 student.
Causey-Gomez said the benefits were for students enrolled during the last month of the 2022 school year in public, private and parochial schools participating in the National School Lunch Program. She said the territory had distributed about $29 million in P-EBT funds since 2020.
Health Commissioner Justa Encarnacion said the territory had no confirmed monkeypox cases as of October 11. She also reported 42 active COVID-19 cases, with one patient hospitalized at Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix and four at Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.
