Territorial Hospital Board approves design contracts for four health facilities

The Territorial Hospital Board on October 13, 2020, approved architecture and engineering designs for Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix, Schneider Regional Medical Center and the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute on St. Thomas, and the Myrah Keating Smith Clinic on St. John.

The board voted unanimously to award design contracts to three firms for the four projects. Schneider Hospital Vice President of Facilities Management Darryl Smalls was named to oversee the process. According to Smalls, the design phase for the projects could take six to 18 months.

The approved contracts were $12,948,272 for Flad & Associates to design Juan F. Luis Hospital; $5,870,000 for EYP Architects to design Schneider Regional Medical Center; $936,000 for EYP Architects and Engineers to design the Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute; and $1,529,770 for SMITHGROUP to design the Myrah Keating Smith Clinic.

According to the announcement, the Federal Emergency Management Agency was to cover 90% of the cost, with the remaining 10% local match to be paid with Community Development Block Grant funds provided by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development following the 2017 hurricanes.
