Bryan said Plaskett was working with USPS on Puerto Rico-related mail delays affecting Virgin Islands

Government House said on September 3, 2021, that Delegate to Congress Stacey Plaskett was working with the U.S. Postal Service to address mail delivery problems affecting the U.S. Virgin Islands.

According to Plaskett’s office, the USPS regional office in Puerto Rico suspended inbound and outbound mail processing to the territory from August 20 through August 27 because of structural issues at the USPS processing center in San Juan.

Government House said the delays could slow delivery of income tax refunds that were mailed during the week of August 30, 2021, as well as Child Tax Credit checks that began going out during the week of August 23, 2021.

Until the San Juan processing center became operational, inbound letter mail for the territory from the mainland, Alaska and Hawaii was rerouted to Morgan Station in New York, and outbound international and domestic letter mail processing was moved to the USPS processing center in Memphis, Tennessee.

Large packages and inter-island mail processing and delivery were not affected, according to Plaskett’s office.
