Downed lines and damaged equipment caused March 28 outage on St. Thomas east end
An outage that affected St. Thomas east-end customers on March 28 was caused by downed primary power lines in Red Hook and damage to electrical equipment in Nadir, the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority said on March 29.
WAPA said the interruption began at about 6:30 p.m. and initially affected all customers on Feeder 9C while crews identified the cause.
After crews determined that lines were down in Red Hook, WAPA isolated the area from Nadir to Red Hook and restored service to other customers while the lines were restrung.
The authority said the downed lines also caused an electrical fault that damaged distribution switchgear in Nadir, extending the outage. Additional crews reconfigured Feeder 7C by extending it from Smith Bay to Nadir to restore service to affected customers.
WAPA said both feeders would be returned to their normal configuration after repairs to the switchgear were completed.
