U.S. Virgin Islands reopened to leisure travelers on Sept. 19
The U.S. Virgin Islands reopened to leisure travelers on Sept. 19, 2020, while remaining in the Safer at Home phase of its COVID-19 response, Government House said.
Hotels and other guest lodgings had been allowed to begin accepting reservations on Sept. 12, 2020, and were permitted to accept and check in visitors beginning Sept. 19, according to the statement.
The Virgin Islands Department of Health reported 49 active COVID-19 cases on Sept. 18, 2020. Government House said 18,980 people had been tested to date, with 17,440 negative results and 1,232 positive results.
Under the Safer at Home phase, restaurants were allowed limited in-house dining and service, but patrons were barred from congregating around bar counters and alcohol service at bar counters was prohibited. Bars, nightclubs and cabarets remained closed.
Visitation at nursing home facilities remained prohibited. Public school campuses remained closed, while private and parochial schools were allowed to open only after assessment and approval by the Virgin Islands Department of Health.
