Bryan briefed on final construction phase and transition planning for JFL North on St. Croix

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. met with the Territorial Hospital Redevelopment Team on May 23, 2022, for a status update on completion of the temporary Juan F. Luis Hospital North facility on St. Croix.

Government House said the interim hospital was in its final phase of construction, centered on a mechanical building that would house life-safety and support functions needed for the facility to operate.

Juan F. Luis Hospital officials and the redevelopment team also conducted a first tabletop exercise to prepare for the transfer of services. According to the administration, hospital staff developed a 600-page transition manual covering the movement of patients, equipment and other operations to JFL North, as well as plans to maintain essential services while the current facility is demolished and rebuilt.

Officials also discussed certification plans with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. JFL Chief Operating Officer Hazel Philbert said CMS would be updated on project timelines, including completion of the mechanical building and the patient transition, and would later schedule a site survey.

Government House said contractor Lemartec was expected to complete the mechanical building by August 2022 after receipt of the fire suppression system, described as the longest-lead item, with commissioning to follow.
