Bryan administration reported 19 active COVID-19 cases in U.S. Virgin Islands
Government House said on October 6, 2020, that Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. was self-quarantining after returning to the territory from the mainland and that a message from the governor was delivered during the weekly press briefing by Communications Director Richard Motta Jr.
Motta said Bryan thanked residents for keeping his family in their prayers while he was out of the territory. Motta also relayed a statement from Bryan urging residents to continue following Virgin Islands Department of Health guidance on social distancing, mask wearing and avoiding mass gatherings.
Government House said the territory was tracking 19 active COVID-19 cases as of October 6. It said 21,507 people had been tested, with 20,155 negative results and 1,322 positive results. It said 1,283 people had recovered and 20 people had died.
Government House said no COVID-19 patients were hospitalized at Juan F. Luis Hospital on St. Croix and three COVID-19 patients were hospitalized at Schneider Regional Medical Center on St. Thomas.
The administration also reported that the Virgin Islands Department of Labor had issued 40,511 unemployment insurance checks totaling more than $31.1 million and 27,556 Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation checks totaling about $42.2 million. It said the department had also issued about $4.49 million in Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and about $1.51 million in Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation, for a total of 69,953 benefit payments worth about $78.24 million.
