Bryan sought $19.6 million for road work and other capital projects

Gov. Albert Bryan Jr. submitted legislation to the Virgin Islands Legislature on April 8, 2021, seeking an appropriation of $19.6 million from excess funds in the Debt Service Reserve Fund for road work and other capital projects across the territory.

According to Government House, the proposal allocated $9.6 million for 13 road projects on St. Croix and $8.35 million for 14 road projects in the St. Thomas-St. John District. The administration asked senators to determine and earmark funding for specific projects prioritized by the Department of Public Works.

The proposal also included funding to replace the boat ramp and parking lot at Hull Bay on St. Thomas and a request from the Virgin Islands Port Authority to complete fendering along Veterans Drive Waterfront on St. Thomas.

Projects listed by Government House included road milling, paving and drainage work on Queen Mary Highway and in Strawberry Hill, Upper Love, Union and Mount Washington, Whim, Estate St. John, Estate Richmond, Mount Pleasant and Calquohoun on St. Croix.

In the St. Thomas-St. John District, the list included drainage and repaving work in Estates Misgunst and Lerkenlund, Estate Hope, Estate Pearl, Frenchman’s Bay, Estate St. Peter, Lilliendal and Marienhoj, Estate Mandahl and Smith Bay, and portions of Lionel Berry Scenic Drive on St. Thomas, as well as portions of Route 10 in Cruz Bay, Route 10 in Estate Carolina and Route 107 in Coral Bay on St. John.
