Anybody who believes that Roy Hodgson is a spent force in football is sadly mistaken.

The 74-year-old looked like his days in the sport were numbered when he left his role as Crystal Palace boss at the end of last season.

The former England boss made a return when he took the Watford job earlier this season.

However, he faces a real battle to stop the Hornets from suffering a prompt return back to the Championship as they’re three points off safety with 17th-placed Everton also having games in hand on them.

If his side are to manage to do that then Hodgson will need his players to be firing on all cylinders in front of goal as they look to earn some valuable victories between now and the end of the season.

With plenty of wisdom to teach off the pitch, it seems that the veteran boss also has a thing or two to show his talented crop of players on the park as well.

Watford’s social media team shared a clip on social media that showed Hodgson floating a glorious left-footed ball forward, over the head of the defender and into the path of Joao Pedro who slotted home from inside the penalty area.

Hodgson’s contract with Watford runs until the end of the season and no doubt fresh speculation over his future will surface with talk of his retirement being likely to crop up again.

The experienced boss spoke about retirement after leaving Palace last year, saying that he’d ‘never say never’ when it came to making a football return.

He said: “One never knows.

“It is a dangerous thing to do when you still feel good about yourself to start making bold statements about retirement.

“I am stepping away from football for a while but who knows what the future will be? It is a never-say-never moment.”

Maybe it’s ‘never say never’ on whether Hodgson can make a return to playing football.
