The V.I. Water and Power Authority on Monday announced the arrival of Josh Jones, who has joined the authority as director of safety.

According to a release from WAPA, Mr. Jones brings ten years of experience in safety management and most recently served as safety manager of Operations for Alliant Energy.

During his tenure at Alliant Energy, Mr. Jones led numerous compliance related initiatives and developed Alliant Energy’s safety assessment program, with a focus on employee engagement and collaborative safety initiatives, WAPA made known. His comprehensive background encompasses not only safety support in the power generation division, but also in T&D, where his team provided safety support during multiple storms including Hurricane Sandy, Hurricane Irma, and Iowa’s 2020 Derecho, according to the release.

Prior to Alliant Energy, Mr. Jones also worked at OSHA, Nestle Purina, and S&R Egg Farms.

He received his master of science degree from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater, and in 2017 received his Certified Safety Professional designation. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Jones was awarded the National Safety Council’s Rising Star of Safety award, according to WAPA.

Prior to pursuing a career in safety, Mr. Jones served for four years in the U.S. Army and deployed twice to Iraq. He will be joined in the territory by his wife, son, and their two dogs.
