The V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency said Monday that it will begin registering Senior Citizens and physically challenged residents for home delivery of filled sandbags on Tuesday September 13th, through Friday September 16th from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm daily. Delivery will be Saturday, September 17th.

According to the release, senior residents throughout the territory wishing to request home delivery are asked to call the VITEMA St Thomas office at 340-774-2244, extension 6829, to receive up to six filled sandbags. Callers will be given information on enrollment in the VI Health and Human Services Senior

Registry, while providing operators with their home address and any special directions for delivery, VITEMA said. As a reminder, regular distribution of sandbags will continue through the week as scheduled, at Department of Public Works locations on St. Thomas and St Croix on Tuesday from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, and Thursday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Saturday pick up at participating Fire Stations will be from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.. The distribution program will conclude on September 17th.

VITEMA Director Daryl Jaschen reminded the community that planning and preparedness is one of the key missions of VITEMA, and providing sandbags during the Operation Blue Skies Sandbag distribution is in line with supporting the community as they prepare before a pending storm.
