The University of the Virgin Islands Research and Technology Park (UVI RT Park) has announced the launch of the USVI Idea Incubator, a 15-week program aimed at nurturing tech entrepreneurship among Virgin Islanders. The program offers participants a free, comprehensive framework for establishing and expanding a technology company.
UVI RT Park designed the USVI Idea Incubator to educate and train participants in the fundamentals of working with developers to create a product while adhering to industry best practices and providing access to essential tools and resources. The program will be delivered through a hybrid model, combining weekly virtual sessions with in-person engagement opportunities during the first and last weeks of the program.
Amannda Spann, Entrepreneurship Program Management, noted that previous entrepreneurship programs provided crucial insights, revealing that many aspiring founders, particularly those venturing into tech entrepreneurship, were unaware of their knowledge gaps. She explained that the organization has realigned its focus to offer foundational education that empowers and enables residents to confidently transform their ideas into reality.
The USVI Idea Incubator participants will attend a series of workshops, webinars, and mentoring sessions over the 15-week program, receiving professional feedback and acquiring the tools necessary to launch a product, increase sales, and refine their pitch for future ventures.
The program began accepting applications on April 4th. Applicants must be based in the territory and have generated less than $50,000 in revenue and less than $100,000 in investment (including equity, notes, and grants). Interested individuals can review the program’s full requirements and submit an online application at www.incubatevi.com.
