The first of three gift giveaway events organized by the Office of the Governor, called the Governor’s Children Christmas Drive Thru, took place on St. Croix Monday evening and the turnout was so strong that traffic remained backed up for all of the three-hour event.
Whether you took the roadway from Golden Rock or the path from the Christiansted Bypass area, there was no escaping the seemingly unending stream of vehicles, resulting in one of the best turnouts for the event so far.
For those who did make it to the actual area on King Street near Gov’t House where the gifts were being handed out to children, they were met with entertainment, Santa and other characters, gov’t employees, Lt. Gov. Tregenza Roach, First Lady Yolanda Bryan and Governor Albert Bryan himself, who spent the night providing the gifts to children as the vehicles drove by.
For those who couldn’t make it but wanted to experience the excitement and spirit of Christmas, Gov’t House provided a livestream of the event (see above).
The Governor’s Children Christmas Drive Thru now heads to St. John, scheduled for this evening in Downtown Cruz Bay, then to St. Thomas on Dec. 14 at the Havensight Mall. The St. Thomas event is being organized in conjunction with the Gov’t Employees’ Retirement System.
